Off-peak water heating
A new electric water heater provides the Nords with safe, combustion-free water heating. And operating the water heater on Otter Tail Power Company's low off-peak electric rate reduces the family's energy expenses.
Rim joist
Spray foam insulation in the rim joist area provides excellent R-value* and seals against outside air infiltration and in one easy step.

* R-value is resistance to heat transfer. Heat naturally transfers from a warmer area to a colder area. Conductors easily let heat through; insulators hold heat in. Insulation with higher R-value has a higher resistance to heat loss from the home.
New entry door
Ed Newman Construction Services set the new entry door in place to reduce infiltration of cold outside air.
Main floor windows
New window inserts address air-leakage problems in the Nord home.
Basement windows
New basement windows help cut air leakage and reduce heat loss.
