Thermal storage underfloor heat

Use the heat-storing properties of the earth

Heat-storage systems served on off-peak rates must be properly installed to be capable of storing adequate heat to warm the space during the maximum control period allowed by the rate.

A sand bed that is 6 to 12 inches deep—with properly placed insulation beneath the sand bed—helps ensure this capability for underfloor systems.

Here's how it works

Before the cement slab is poured, electric cables or preformed heating panels are buried 4 to 12 inches deep in a bed of sand. The cables or panels charge during off-peak hours when our electric rate is roughly half our standard residential rate and create a heat reservoir in the sand and the earth around it. The stored heat can be used to warm a new home or addition, garage, workshop, business, or warehouse space.

Benefits

  • Warmth at your feet - Underfloor heat conducts evenly across the floor to reach people and objects. It provides unparalleled comfort and tremendous efficiency.
  • Cleanliness - Thermal storage systems are 100 percent clean and quiet. No dust is circulated.
  • Effectiveness - A thermal storage system can heat an entire building or may be used to supplement another heat source.
  • Convenience - Place your furniture wherever you choose! No vents get in the way.
