About the 900-kilowatt tower

Otter Tail Power Company buys wind-generated electricity from one turbine near Hendricks, MN and another in Gary, SD. The larger of the two units, near Hendricks, has the following statistics:

The rotor and generator are mounted on a 237-foot tower.
The rotor diameter is approximately 170 feet.
Each of the three blades is 84 feet long and weighs 4.2 tons.
The hub weighs about 3.5 tons.
The nacelle dimensions are 21'x7.5'x13', and it weighs 6.5 tons.
The tower is 237 feet high. It was manufactured at DMI Industries, Inc. in Fargo, North Dakota.
The concrete base is two structures. The first is below the ground and is 42 feet square and 3.5 feet thick. The second is the portion of the base that you can see. It rests on top of the first and is 16 feet in diameter and 4 feet thick.
