Devils Lake is 189 miles from Winnipeg and less than 400 miles from Minneapolis/St. Paul. Burlington Northern-Santa Fe and Soo Line Railroads serve Devils Lake. Three ports of entry give easy access to international trade. The area has three commercial airports within a hundred miles as well as several local municipal airports. The Devils Lake region is North Dakota's sportsman's paradise. Having the largest natural body of water in North Dakota makes it a premier vacation destination for all seasons.
Langdon hosts the University of North Dakota Research Extension Center, established in 1907, which conducts research for North Dakota's vital agricultural economy. The site, a mile east of Langdon, includes a seed-cleaning plant and storage facilities.
