Crookston, with a population of more than 8,000, is in Polk County, less than 20 miles from the North Dakota border and less than 100 miles from the Canadian border. Burlington Northern Santa Fe, Greyhound Bus, Twin City Freight, and the Crookston Municipal Airport serve Crookston. U.S. Highways 2 and 75 and State Highways 9 and 102 intersect at Crookston; I-29 is 20 miles west.
Hallock is in the northwestern corner of Minnesota, 20 miles south of the Canadian border and 10 miles east of North Dakota. In the heart of the productive Red River Valley, farming and its related industries provide a large share of the employment and tax base for the community. It is conveniently located for marketing and processing raw products. Two large grain elevators have unit train capabilities. U.S. Highway 75 and Minnesota Highway 175 intersect at Hallock; I-29 is 14 miles west. Burlington Northern Railroad's main north/south line runs through Hallock and connects with the Canadian National Railway at the international boundary. Hallock has a modern airport with a 4,000-foot paved runway.
